Hunting season... Eeeek!

I was starting dinner a little while ago, and heard Jesse Cat scratching at the deck door. I opened it up, let him in, didn't really look at him. Then did a double-take. He seemed to have sprouted a full grayish-white mustache.
Looked again -- it was a mouse between his jaws!
He ran into the living room. Was it alive or dead? I got him to drop it, and the poor thing was alive.
I managed to pick it up in my hands (I've never done this before), ran to the door, placed it out onto the deck.
"RUNNNN!!!!" I said, slamming the door shut before Jesse could go after it.
I have no idea whether it was wounded or not, but when I looked out a moment ago with a flashlight, it was gone.
Puir beastie.

Date: 2007-04-02 04:07 am (UTC)That's the one good thing about having a dog with bird hunting genes...she's a soft mouth so whatever she has is going to still be alive. Like frogs. ribbit.

Date: 2007-04-02 04:52 am (UTC)We've settled for training her to take her "toys" outside. The number of dead beasties has gotten less over the past year. She's 3 now.
Go Jessie Cat!
Date: 2007-04-02 04:57 am (UTC)When Kevin, myself and another guy shared a house, my Pooka cat showed off her mousing skills. We had an unfinished garage that our landlord had tried to turn into other rooms. So we had plenty of meeces.
We developed a bounty system. When she brought us a mouse, we would give her a piece of a hot dog or bologna or something. Since she was a stray before she came to live with me, she's a great hunter, scavenger, thief and fighter.
Fortunately, she loves being a housecat and doesn't have to use those skills anymore. Although when I watch her staring at the squirrels I think she misses it just a little sometimes.

Date: 2007-04-03 12:52 am (UTC)Just a few minutes ago I saw a cheeky little bastard drag a paring knife across my stove, going to take it down behind the cabinet!!! And for the most part, my cats don't pay them any mind...
But a couple of days ago, my Mercy girl left her dead mouse present outside my bedroom door while I was sleeping away the effects of nightshift work. I'm so glad I didn't step in it.
I have no compunctions about letting my cats do their mousing. It's killing the birds that bugs me...
Good ol' Jesse Cat!
