I was starting dinner a little while ago, and heard Jesse Cat scratching at the deck door. I opened it up, let him in, didn't really look at him. Then did a double-take. He seemed to have sprouted a full grayish-white mustache.

Looked again -- it was a mouse between his jaws!

He ran into the living room. Was it alive or dead? I got him to drop it, and the poor thing was alive.

I managed to pick it up in my hands (I've never done this before), ran to the door, placed it out onto the deck.

"RUNNNN!!!!" I said, slamming the door shut before Jesse could go after it.

I have no idea whether it was wounded or not, but when I looked out a moment ago with a flashlight, it was gone.

Puir beastie.

Charlie was a very big cat, so when he ran in with prey, they were bunny rabbits.

Well, they might be easier to grab, because of their size... :)

Our cat usually goes for the birds.....there is nothing like opening the front door on a pretty spring day to be greeted by a dead bird on the door step. A lovely present from Smoke.

Ten thousand little baby meeces will revere you as a goddess over the next five years or so.

My neighbor's cat brings her dead bats. :-0

That's the one good thing about having a dog with bird hunting genes...she's a soft mouth so whatever she has is going to still be alive. Like frogs. ribbit.

I had a cat who would bring us night crawlers! He once brought in a live toad and dropped it on the rug, where it was perfectly camouflaged. We had to get down on the floor and shine flashlight across the rug to find it.

Our Mighty Huntress does mice, squirrels, and birds. She even was stashing birds in the house this winter, but judging by the lack of smell, she took them out again relatively quickly.

We've settled for training her to take her "toys" outside. The number of dead beasties has gotten less over the past year. She's 3 now.

Go Jessie Cat!

I'm always proud of Pooka's hunting skills. But I know that it can be awkard to deal with the results in the house.

When Kevin, myself and another guy shared a house, my Pooka cat showed off her mousing skills. We had an unfinished garage that our landlord had tried to turn into other rooms. So we had plenty of meeces.

We developed a bounty system. When she brought us a mouse, we would give her a piece of a hot dog or bologna or something. Since she was a stray before she came to live with me, she's a great hunter, scavenger, thief and fighter.

Fortunately, she loves being a housecat and doesn't have to use those skills anymore. Although when I watch her staring at the squirrels I think she misses it just a little sometimes.

You're a nicer person than I am, at least to mice. I've developed quite a little phobia of the creepy things.

I had to laugh when you said you rescued a mouse! (Jesse probably was wondering what you were doing with his present to you!)

Just a few minutes ago I saw a cheeky little bastard drag a paring knife across my stove, going to take it down behind the cabinet!!! And for the most part, my cats don't pay them any mind...

But a couple of days ago, my Mercy girl left her dead mouse present outside my bedroom door while I was sleeping away the effects of nightshift work. I'm so glad I didn't step in it.

I have no compunctions about letting my cats do their mousing. It's killing the birds that bugs me...

Good ol' Jesse Cat!
