PSA for those who check blood glucose
May. 17th, 2007 09:46 pmGot this email today from my diabetes educator:
I had a patient today who told me of a recent low BG which was the result of hand soap. He had washed his hands and then tested BG which was over 200 and so he corrected. Then unsure of why he would have been so high he tested again and it was 120’s. he had to eat a lot for awhile due to too much insulin. The hand soap had Glycerol in it which is a sugar alcohol and can raise BG. So make sure you rinse hands well before testing BG.
