This morning I was in the shower when I heard the phone ringing. I decided to stay in the shower, rather than leap out dripping wet, which was my instinct. You see, I just *knew* it was someone calling about a summer job for my child. I sternly reminded myself that we have an answering machine.
When I did emerge from the bathroom, demurely clad in my robe, I went into my office to check the answering machine. No light was blinking. So I ran downstairs to see what the caller ID device had recorded, as I was still certain it was a job offer for the samurai. (Who had been alseep when I went into the shower. Although, when I emerged, I'd noticed her door was open.)
My kid was downstairs reading the paper. And she had been awakened by the phone, and gone in to hear the message while I was still in the shower, and, since she'd heard the message, that was why the light was no logner blinking.
It had been a prospective employer calling her to ask her to call him back. And yes, when she called a few minutes afterward, it was a job offer, which she accepted.
So that will take care of the teenager's car insurance, and she'll have some money left over. Plus, he is very flexible and if she wants to work some hours during the school year (her dad and I want to make sure she doesn't work too much -- her *real job* is school), she can.
