My gentle readers may recall that my 8-month-old Gateway desktop ended up with the Best Buy Geek Squad on Monday when it went into an endless shut-down-restart loop while I was (ironically enough) surfing LJ. I mentioned also that Norton GoBaclk had an error message when I tried to use it to fix things.

I was told mid-week that the Windows file system was corrupted, along with GoBack. It would cost me $230 to restore my computer to its out-of-box state and make a backup disk so I wouldn't lose my files.

Last night I came home to hear a surprising message on my answering machine:

"We actaully have some good news. We tried something before doing the data backup and I removed Norton GoBack from the startup process and it actually boots up fine now. I've rebooted it 15 times and there have been no problems. So you can actually just come pick it up.

"There will be no charge."

Yep, you called it,    [profile] be4u! (She said Norton makes lots of money for computer repair folks.)

I think I've been fighting a cold all week. I'm exhausted.

Did get all my paid and non-paid work done, though. Except I need to make bourbon-chocolate brownies as my dessert offering to the potluck following our minister's installation as our settled minister on Sunday. That (the baking) will be fine. (I've also spent a lot of time writing and cutting way back a little explanation I'm to deliver at the ceremony about our unconventional search process. We broke all the rules and really pissed off the denominational headquarters, while gaining the admiration of individual congregations! Hehehe.)

Worming Jesse and Stella seems to have been the magic bullet. The crazed, crawl-up-your-leg "feed me!!" every time I walked into the kitchen from Jesse (Stella wasn't quite that bad) has been cut *way* back.

I got a cute photo of Stella today that I'll upload later.

I'm going to start dinner (Samurai is still at work and won't be home for about an hour) and go to bed early.

Wait... how often have I said that? ("Go to bed early...") I just can't resist logging on here to see what the rest of you are doing.

So we shall see.
