The vegetable garden is IN. Finally. Don't think it's ever taken this long. I didn't go as hog-wild over tomatoes this year, or peppers (four tomatoes, two peppers), but because of the way they were packaged, did end up with six broccoli plants. Put in some lettuce that will probably bolt before it can be eaten, some thyme and majoram to join the chives and basil, two kinds of green beans, and a hill of zucchini. Odd as it sounds -- given the cliches about overabundant zukes -- I have had trouble growing them here. They keep developing blossom end rot. But since I have extra space (because of cutting back on the tomatoes), will give it a shot. *shrug*

Now I have to get the deer fence up and figure out how to make a gate to get myself inside. Did a dope-slap just a few minutes ago. The old fence, hastily erected last year when I realized deer were already ravaging the garden, involved stapling the deer neeting to thick wooden stakes 5 feet high (they should have been 7 feet, but those weren't available) that I put in the ground right up against the outside of my raised beds. This meant that I couldn't kneel or squat on the outside of the beds to reach over and work in them. I had to kneel inside the beds.

It occurred to me that I can move the stakes *back* a foot or two from the sides of the raised beds, so there will be a perimeter around them that I can walk and work in!

Duh ....
