Beep for the next Veep! A little UU, a little woo woo, and me

Gentle readers,

You may remember I was summoned to an emergency meeting of the UU Society's Nominating Committee Wednesday afternoon because it had not been able to find anyone willing to serve as vice president next year, when I'll be president. Alison, the minister, had called to feel me out on the idea of serving as prez for two years, instead of one, with the idea that next year at this time, some of the really promising new people who've joined since Alison came aboard might feel "seasoned" enough to serve as vice president. The vice president automatically becomes president the next year, and the president becomes president emerita or emeritus.

I care deeply about my UU Society, and would serve two years, if a little bit grudgingly, because I'm also wearing many other hats there. One thing I told Alison was that if I accepted this plan, I wanted the Nominating Committee to make clear at the Annual Meeting (which includes election of the slate of officers to the board of trustees) that this was not a megalomaniacal power grab on my part, but its idea! :P

We met at 4:30. We were all a little anxious because there was a tornado watch in effect, and we don't get them often here in New England, unlike so many of you folks on my flist.
Good news! Lauri, who chairs the Nominating Committee, related how stressed out not finding a veep (plus a person to fill another vacant slot as an at-large board member) had been for her. At 5 a.m. that morning, she'd awoken from a strange dream with the urgent thought, "Call Alison.... call Alison."

But not Alison the minister -- a different Alison (oh yes, this is going to get confusing! Teehee!). This Alison is one of the fairly new types. She'd been on the list of people the committee had called, despite her newness, and she had said "no." Well, Lauri called her back Wednesday and Alison C. (vs. Alison W., the minister) surprised her by saying, "I've been thinking about this, and I've reconsidered. I'll do it."

I hardly know anything about Alison C.  But her aura is awesome. There is such a light about her, and I can almost smell a fresh spring breeze, just thinking of her. I  don't really know her because she has spent Sunday mornings "downstairs" as a volunteer in the children's religious ed. program; her kids are there.

We still had that "at large" board member slot to fill. The name of Charlie, the guy who has agreed to go in with me on replacing the church sign, came up again. There had been some hesitancy to call him earlier because of some family issues he's going through -- people thought he would say no. We decided this week to at least flatter him by letting him know of our interest, and he could (and probably would) just  say no.

Thursday, he said yes!!!!

Woo woo and woo hoo!

When the meeting ended, it was raining buckets, but we all got home OK without any tornadoes being reported. Lots of flooding, though.

In other news, I had to go back Monday for another "follow up" visit with the surgeon who did my lumpectomy last May 19.

She said all looked and felt fine, and echoed the oncologist's words last month about the microcalcifications seen on the mammo of the other breast by saying (even before I'd told her what the oncologist had said), "There was absolutely nothing suspicious on those films."

I was supposed to meet her at 1 p.m., but at noon her office called to say she was running late in surgery, and could I come in at 1:30 instead? I was really grateful for the call, as she has been late an hour or more each time I've been scheduled to meet with her.

I was doubly grateful when right after that, I got an email from a client asking where was the followup thank-you letter for an appeal I'd written in late April? There had been no set due date for it, so it wasn't on the calendar, and I had completely forgotten I was supposed to do that! Yikes! So I managed to pound one out, plus a variation for prospects, and send them off just before I had to leave for the now-1:30 appointment....

... which didn't happen until 2:15.

Oh well, at least I got good news from it. And I got a little more reading done on Reading Lolita in Tehran.

And then today, I got a notice from the bank. I had forgotten to pay the May mortgage! Gah! Fortunately, the Amherst branch (and I was going to head down to that same part of town anyway) was open until 6 p.m., so now we're back in their good graces (including one late charge).

Tomorrow is a local plant swap. There used to be a garden club in our little town, but it's pretty much fallen apart. But one member posted to the list, inviting everyone over at 10 a.m. I potted up three bleeding hearts that are the offspring of a single plant that is extremely prolific, and will drop by with them.

Now, to start dinner in my repainted kitchen. New floor to be installed Thursday and Friday! Wheee!

Well that was lots of good news! I'm glad that another person has stepped up at UU, and I'm really glad that everything is okay in the boobs department. :p

Our Master Gardners are having a plant sale tomorrow. I need to go replace what my husband hacked down.

Yeah, I read about what Mr. Rant did... I've been through that, too.

At least the Master Gardeners narrow it down to things that actually can survive here. Maybe I can find something mature enough not to be mistaken for weeds. *shakes fist*

Oh, I'm so glad things worked out. I have an allergy to taking on that kind of responsibility, so I'm a bit in awe of those who do.

Woo Woos all the way around. As they used to say on TV "I love it when a plan comes together."
