After behaving itself Saturday and Sunday, my CPU or monitor is acting up again.

I still can't tell which is the culprit. The monitor is not under a warranty or service plan, and it will cost me $70 just to have Best Buy check it out. :(

Well crap! Might be better just to get a new one if they charge that much just to look at it. New LCD's here run about $200.

Any chance you have another monitor that you know is working? You could hook up the known good monitor and see if there's still problems.

I wish I were closer, I'd look at it for you. If you want me to try and troubleshoot long distance, just ask and I'll do what I can.

That was going to be my next step, until I decided the hell with it, and to take the CPU in to be checked out. I need to go into town anyway. The backup monitor is enormous, and would take up most of the top of my desk! And in fact, I don't *know* if it works -- my SIL gave it to me. It had been in storage at her school, and the school people wanted the ancient monitors to be taken away to free up space. So I've never plugged it in.

It may be the video card in the CPU, or the cable.

I was also thinking that if they find that it is NOT the CPU or the cable, I'm not even going to have them check out the monitor, just get another one.

I have an old backup monitor like that, too. No idea if it even works, I bought it years ago from a police auction. Hoping when I get my office set up I'll have room to try it out on the 3rd/old computer and see. I had ideas of making that 'puter for Aaron.
