Dear idiot in the hulking pickup truck that was behind me a few minutes ago...
If I am driving along a narrow, winding, wooded country road at dusk and suddenly slow WAAAAY down, it is most certainly not to annoy you (even if you were following much too close and your headlights' reflection in my rearview mirror was unpleasant).
In the future, before you get p-ssed off (and pull into the oncoming lane, over a double solid line, to illegally pass a suddenly slowing vehicle at high speed), take a nanosecond to ask yourself, "Might the driver ahead of me have slowed down for a reason?"
I hope that you realized that reason as soon as you narrowly escaped ending an innocent life and damaging your precious vehicle.
You see, I thought I'd seen something move in the dusky lane ahead of me, but it was hard to tell for sure. So, I slowed down as a precaution; and then, when I got close enough to see I was right, I slowed again to give the doe time to get out of not only my way, but yours.
She kept moving -- and, by the time you roared past me, she was now in the middle of the lane that you now illegally occupied. I'm grateful that when you quickly swerved to avoid her -- thereby getting back into the correct lane -- you didn't hit the other deer that was following her, and that was now in front of you.
Jerk.
