How many other people are deleting their LJ accounts because of the Russian matter? I know at least one person is.

I haven't deleted my account, but as you probably already know I quit posting on LJ years ago. Ok, I quit posting anything but reminders to my friends there that I had moved here....

I have an account here, which I can't access directly because the email is defunct. But I can get in through open id. I doubt I'll use it except yo read people who have moved here.

I'm using it as a prompt to backup to Dreamwidth.

I am HIGHLY skeptical; LJ has been owned by the Russians for ages, and all this drama cropped up at EXACTLY the same time as the revival. Very suspicious. So I updated my DW backup and that's all I'm doing and I'm actively suggesting people NOT be highly reactive (aside from making sure of backups) right now, but wait a couple/few months and see what happens.

I noticed that too -- the interesting timing. Even wondered if the FB revival page was started by Russians (pretending to be liberal Americans).

I actually think the other way; that the panic is started by American trolls, aided by genuine people who think there really is a problem, and that the revival is what brought those trolls back to LJ.
I don't know when the servers really moved to Russia; I didn't check my IP before, so I can't know. Do I really think they are going to go after the US side? No. We aren't a worthy target. There may be problems on the Russian side, but that has been true since LJ was bought by the Russians, nothing new there, so if it wasn't a problem before, I see no reason to think it will suddenly become one.

I certainly never connected ownership of LJ being in Russia to the election tampering. I have no plans to delete my journal.

If I've missed something important here, please let me know.

No me, I'll weather this current storm. It's not the first time.

A russian thing? There is so little info in LJ anymore (thanks to non-producers, er, like myself) that I am not worried, whatever it is to be worried about.

I'm not that concerned about it. I did create a Dreamwidth account, not to even cross post or back up lj, but just in case everybody bails or the site shuts down. I realize it's unlikely to happen, but I keep saying, nothing last forever. The whole Russian thing doesn't really bother me. I agree when people say if they were going to shut things down, why spend all the money to move? Or, as before, just sell it in the same they bought it before.

I am hearing bothersome rumors about russians being arrested in Russia for blogging.

I had heard the same thing about Russians being arrested. I created a Dreamwidth account years ago during the time when LJ was experiencing DOS attacks (I think that's the term), supposedly from Russia, so we could not get on for days or even weeks at a time. That account still exists, and I did start backing everything up there. But then I forgot it existed! Not even sure how to back up from LJ to DM anymore. (Although, obviously, I can post from DM to LJ!)

not exiting, but i do have a dreamwidth account, and backing up, or at least transferring some things might happen. i may just download it all on my external hard drive. it's been sitting here, empty, for about 5 or 6 years.
